The Matthew Murphy Golf Outing is held in loving memory of Matthew Murphy, with all net proceeds benefiting the Matthew Murphy Foundation. Matthew was a seventh grader at Magothy River Middle School when he left this earth far too soon on April 22, 2018. His life was tragically taken by an impaired driver, a loss that brought an entire community to its knees.
In the wake of Matthew’s passing, his family was surrounded by extraordinary love, compassion, and support from friends, neighbors, and the greater community. That experience became the inspiration for the Matthew Murphy Foundation. The foundation’s mission is to support families facing unimaginable loss, tragedy, or hardship who may not have the same level of support that carried Matthew’s family through their darkest days. Our goal is to provide comfort, resources, and hope during life’s most difficult moments, just as this community did for the Murphys.
Each year, family, friends, and community members gather to play golf at Bay Hills Golf Club, the course Matthew called his own backyard. This outing is more than a day on the course, it is a celebration of Matthew’s life, the love he inspired, and the strength of a community that came together in grief and in healing.Together, we honor Matthew by loving hard, lifting others up, and celebrating life, with every golfer, sponsor, and donation helping the Matthew Murphy Foundation support families through the most difficult times of their lives.

This Best-Ball Scramble format golf tournament will be on April 25th with a 11am Shotgun Start. All net proceeds will benefit the Matthew Murphy Foundation. You can register as a foursome or single player, and all golfers will receive a complimentary comfort bag at check-in, drinks/snacks at the start, open bar, soft drinks, and a barbecue buffet afterward.

Matthew was born in Annapolis, Maryland on August 17, 2005. He loved video games, going to the beach, visiting West Virginia, and spending time with both of his extended families. He lived life fully and left an unimaginable void when he passed. But in his short time on this earth, he made an impact few others have, or will, in their lifetimes.

To honor Matthew’s legacy, we created the Matthew Murphy Foundation, a recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The foundation was inspired by the extraordinary way our community lifted Matthew’s family during their darkest days with love, compassion, and unwavering support. We know that not every family facing tragedy is surrounded by that same network of care, and it is our mission to help fill that gap for others in need.
The foundation supports victim-families by helping them overcome obstacles, access essential resources, and begin rebuilding their lives. Through fundraising efforts, community partnerships, and the generosity of those who share our mission, we provide support and opportunities that help families find a pathway forward during life’s most difficult moments.
We are dedicated to ensuring that families have the chance to heal, move forward, and thrive after tragedy, while carrying forward the values that Matthew inspired in all of us: hope, resilience, compassion, and empowerment.

We have numerous business and personal sponsorship opportunities available for all budget sizes. All net proceeds from your sponsorship will go directly to the Matthew Murphy Foundation.
